Biography
Lon Ferguson was born in Corpus Christi, Texas in 1958, and was raised in Dallas, Texas. Using his tax return money he purchased his first camera in 1977, and instantly fell in love. In 1981 he received a BA in photography from Sam Houston State University, and in 1987 he received a Bachelors of Architecture from the University of Texas. He practiced architecture for six years in Chicago, Illinois. He then returned to Texas where he received an MFA in photography from the University of North Texas State in 1997. Since 2001 he has been a professor of art at Central Michigan University.
In 1994 during his tenure at graduate school he took his first digital class, and found a new avenue for his creative work. This involved using his photography and the computer to create collages that reflected his world-view of spirituality. Though he continues to work with the computer to create collages, his straight photography has re-emerged as a driving force, while still maintaining the esoteric edge. His newest body of work is mythopeic in nature, exploring cultural myths throughout the world. Whether the work is digital or straight photography, he strives to create images that evoke a response from the unconscious mind.
